Camissa Heritage Tour

Camissa Heritage Tour retraces South Africa’s colonial past and its deep historical ties with the Netherlands. At its heart, the tour tells the story of South Africa’s First Peoples, the Indigenous ‘San’ and ‘Khoi’ communities, who lived on this land for thousands of years. These communities resisted the scourge of the settlers and refused to work for the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
This site-specific performance, adapted for theatre, guides audiences through historically significant locations including the Castle of Good Hope, Cape Winelands, Iziko South African Museum, and other key sites. Through storytelling, performance, and restorative memory, our work brings to light the often-overlooked histories of Indigenous peoples, the legacy of slavery in the Cape, and colonial imprints left by the Netherlands and other European countries.
When we remember, we reconnect with who we are.
Camissa, “place of sweet waters”, reminds us of water’s enduring role as a source of cleansing and healing.
