Cape Town City Ballet brings a powerful re-staging of Mozart’s Requiem to the Artscape Theatre as part of its summer season. Choreographed by Dane Hurst, this evocative production fuses Mozart’s iconic final masterpiece with the raw physicality and expressive artistry of Cape Town City Ballet’s dancers. Complementing the profound intensity of Requiem are exquisite extracts from Alexander Glazunov’s celebrated ballet Raymonda staged by Tracy Li.

Created for Opera North and Phoenix Dance Theatre in collaboration with Jazzart Dance Theatre and Cape Town Opera, this reimagined Requiem is a poignant reflection on life, loss, and the soul’s journey. Conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, the work stands as an act of remembrance and a hopeful meditation on the fragility and beauty of life. Complementing the profound intensity of Requiem are exquisite extracts from Alexander Glazunov’s celebrated ballet Raymonda staged by Tracy Li. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, Raymonda is renowned for its elegant classical choreography and vibrant musical score.
